The Observatory for China shares the invitation for the Guided tour of the "China seen from Europe: 16th-19th centuries" exhibition, on March 2nd, 2024, at 3 pm.

China has been part of the European imagination since ancient times, as a space where myths, dreams, expectations and fears are projected. An immense, but distant and difficult to access territory, which Europe discovered during the Middle Ages, it is a very rich space that arouses curiosity, starting with Portuguese maritime expansion and throughout the Modern Age. This exhibition, organized by the Observatory of China and the National Library of Portugal, with the support of research centers and universities in Portugal, Italy and China, narrates some of the important moments in the construction of the image of China from Europe between the centuries XVI to XIX, through maps and itineraries, travel books and chinoiserie objects.
